Mark D. Matthews is the founder of Stay Motivated Coaching & Consulting. A student of the art and science of leadership for nearly 20 years, Mark is devoted to creating timely, relevant, and effective solutions for his clients. His unique approach of applying innovative and creative problem-solving that is focused on his clients' strategic goals makes him a successful leadership coach and consultant. Today, Mark serves as an advisor, trainer, and coach for any manager in any industry who seeks to improve his or her leadership skills. His clients have included business owners, attorneys, and fellow coaches who want to improve their public speaking skills. He is a published author on leadership matters, including a regular column in Work Magazine, the Richmond, Virginia quarterly business journal. Mark also writes on military history for the Internet Review of Books.
Mark has over 15 years of professional leadership and management experience in a variety of positions in the military and the private sector. As an adjunct professor of law, Mark is also currently the Co-Director of the Helping Military Veterans clinical program at the College of William & Mary School of Law. As an officer in the U.S. Army, Mark spent over 12 years coaching, training, and developing junior leaders for positions of greater responsibility, rising to the rank of Major. During that time, he spent two years directly coaching and teaching fellow military lawyers on legal issues that can arise in combat in preparation for deployment to Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia, and Kosovo.
Mark graduated from Belmont Abbey College cum laude in 1993 with a B.A. in Business Administration, an Honors Program minor, and with distinction as a U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps Distinguished Military Graduate. He graduated from the College of William & Mary School of Law in 1999 under the U.S. Army Funded Legal Education Program. Mark is also a graduate of the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, the Judge Advocate General's Corps Officer Basic Course, the Combined Arms Service Staff School, the Criminal Law Advocacy Course (with distinction), and the Law of War Course. Mark has completed the Coaches Training Institute's Fundamentals of Coaching Program and the Career Coach Academy's Career Management Coach course. Mark is also certified to administer the Golden Personality Type Profiler.
Mark is a member of the International Coach Federation, the Richmond Area Coaches Association, the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce, and the Eastern Henrico Business Association.
